Mark Outlaw's Story

When Mark began to lose his sight due to a rare eye disease, he refused to let it claim his ability to work and provide for his family. A former truck driver, Mark overcame the barriers in front of him and forged forward on a journey that helped put him back on top. Mark is the winner of the 2018 Spirit of Determination Award.

Karen Healey’s Story

Karen was born with a brain injury resulting in co-occurring challenges that made her formative years difficult. These challenges led to 24 years of institutional hospitalization, but she never gave up. Karen persevered, fought to reclaim her life and now flourishes living on her own within the community. Karen is the winner of the 2018 Spirit of Inspiration Award.
