David Turner, president and CEO of Goodwill of Western & Northern Connecticut, along with Goodwill board member Morag Vance recently hosted Congressman Jim Himes as he visited and toured the local nonprofit agency. Goodwill officials briefed the Congressman about Goodwill's mission to help people overcome barriers, find jobs and become independent and outlined ways that the congressman could support Goodwill's employment efforts and help with affordable housing issues.
Through a tour of Goodwill Headquarters in Bridgeport, the Congressman was able to see several programs in action including the Career Center and the E-books program. The Career Center offers free job search assistance to people who are unemployed and to those who are searching for a better job. The E-books program enables Goodwill to sell donated books online while providing jobs for participants who sort the books, scan barcodes and help fulfill the orders. Himes also visited the Wahlstrom Goodwill Residence, meeting several individuals who live there, and toured the Bridgeport Goodwill store.
Goodwill is a non-profit organization that provides employment and support services to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Through programs that offer people the opportunity to develop the life-changing skills they need to obtain and keep a job, Goodwill helps the individuals it serves gain hope, dignity and financial independence.
